Drag what ever you can get off it and onto another media. You did not say if you were using it with a Mac or PC. The drive may just have developed some bad blocks making it unreadable....

Chosen Solution The other day I switched my phone off and it wouldn’t turn back on. I tried leaving to charge, hard reset, nothing worked. There was no apple logo just a completely black screen. I put it into recovery mode and connected it to iTunes where I restored everything. I then thought the phone would be fine, but once I turned it off or the battery ran out I had the exact same problem - the phone is completely dead and won’t turn back on unless I go through the whole process....
