Mid 2012 13” PowerBook. I need to replace the hard drive cable. There are apparently 2 versions, one with and one without a bracket. Which cable to I order? I am also going to replace the drive while I am at it with a Crucial 500 Sata SSD. I’ve got a feeling the drive is toast. If I use the USB SATA adapter cable to transfer the High Sierra OS Installer files, is there any reason that it wouldn’t boot up from the new SSD once everything is installed ?
One has the bracket and one doesn’t. The one without is cheaper. You don’t need a new bracket but it takes about 4-5 minutes to fit the cable onto the old bracket. There is a flip lock on it that the IR cable locks into. Flip it up to unlock. The black portion is held in place by a light adhesive. I use a pocket knife to pry it off. The only problem is sliding the new cable into the slot and locking it down. This does take a little manual dexterity. Here’s a video on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgIwxA1_…
