Chosen Solution
I bought two of the same devices off eBay with the intention of repairing them, I have managed to have both MacBook’s complete of all parts, except one which is missing the battery. I have tried to put an SSD in and trying to reinstall the system through internet recovery, however after the globe loading bar finishes and the apple logo appears I get a white screen and it does not move on from there. I have tried different key combinations for internet recovery but get the same issue on both machines. Knowing how common a GPU issue is in these machines I would like to know if that is 100% the case or if I should try something else (I tried numerous solutions such as NVRAM and PRAM reset etc.) before completely ruling it to be a graphics issue. Thank you in advance. EDIT: I have tried a hard drive from another macbook with macOS installed, it boots up to the login screen but after I put the password and login the white screen comes on.
To get around a failing GPU, install Gfx Card Status when the hard drive is in a working machine, then move it to the defective 15” 2011 machine. https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/33905/…
