Why Are My Usb Ports Not Working Hp Desktop

They turn the lights on my keyboard but they will not actually work. I tried every port. They all have power but will not actually work. I plugged in a exposed wire the other day and the computer shut off and now it does this. When I boot the computer it says “Keyboard Error”. The computer still goes to the lock screen but the USB ports are not working.
