I have a Brother Printer model MFC 235. It was working perfectly with my windows 7 laptop. However the Windows 7 machine stopped working so bought a new HP Windows 10 laptop and now it wont recognize the Brother printer. Cannot install the windows driver. Contacted Brother and they say the driver is a Windows one and it should be automatically loaded when laptop is connected to printer. Have followed advice from Brother website to get laptop to recognize the printer, but the install program never appears when you plug in the USB cable in any of the ports.
Hi @tdavie100 , Try installing the drivers as per p.18 of the setup guide. Also see p.16 about uninstalling any old printer software
Hi:Still having trouble printing? If so, while the previous advice given here seems sound, there may be a couple hangups that can be easily resolved. A first thought: When you try to print a file, do you get a print preview screen? If so, make sure the Brother printer is the destination your print job is set to go to. (Your Brother should show up as a drop-down option, and you can select it as your default printer from that). It’s possible the file is currently headed for a PDF or Microsoft XPS or some other goofy option, not to your printer. Good luck and happy printing.
