I specifically made sure to use an ammonia- and alcohol-free screen cleaner on my MBP 2015, first spraying on a microfiber cloth, then wiping the screen – and it created permanent shiny, metallic-like marks. Why did this happen, and is there any magic I can do to fix it? Is this related to “staingate”?
Hi @epbl , Try cleaning the screen with a lightly damp (barely damp) micro fibre cloth, followed by a lint free dry cloth and see if this will remove the residue left over from the “cleaner”. Do not apply too much pressure to the screen when cleaning. Also ensure that the laptop is switched Off when cleaning. (You did do this with the “cleaner” as well I hope?) The reviews on this product are 50/50 regarding its’ effectiveness. Small number of reviews 2 say terrible 2 say good/great. A bit inconclusive.
What exact cleaner did you use? From the description, I would suspect that an ingredient in the “cleaner” reacted with the plastic of the screen. List the ingredients here to confirm. Dan
