After several years of use, the plates on my Cuisinart Griddler have warped. I always check to make sure they are installed correctly prior to use. The center of the places have warped away from the heating surface to the point that they are severely bowed and are no longer fit tightly in the clamps. Why did this happen? We often take the plates out of the grill while still hot so the grease does not burn on and they are easier to clean.

Hi, Using even hot water to clean the plates while they are still hot can cause them to warp. I don’t know the griddle but if the plates were made from cast iron they would most probably crack if you did this and not warp like steel and aluminium plates will do. If may have been better to add just a small amount of water and gently clean the plates while they’re still being warmed in the griddle to remove any food that is stuck to the plate, then turn it off and leave it too cool before cleaning it properly. The user manual shows that the griddle should be left to cool for at least 30 minutes before cleaning it with the appropriate cleaning tool- see p.8, presumably to prevent warping of the plates
