I replaced a swollen battery in my iPhone 5 with an iFixit battery. The phone worked fine for several months until the replacement battery swelled. Any idea why this happened?
These are two most likely reasons:
- The batteries are from a bad batch from the supplier
- The charging cable or charger you are using is of cheap quality (no-name brand / not original). These can actually damage the battery and cause issues like this if the power coming from the charger / cable is not stable / clean. The charging cables (that are MFi certified) have a chip in them for surge protection to protect against power surges and to avoid the battery from bloating. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204566
