I have been able to work my way out of a prohibitory sign on start up before but nothing is working this time. I’d like to know if it’s worth fixing or if I should by a new PC. I bought this mac refurbished. Update (02/27/2017) I called Apple support and they had me hold down some buttons to reset the NVRAM (I don’t know what that is) and it didn’t work. They also said they wouldn’t work on it since it’s obsolete. I think I’ll call around to some repair places to see if I can get some quotes. I don’t have a lot to spend. Oh, and I’m pretty sure I was running OS-X
Most likely a bad hard drive, I would recommend fitting and trying a known working one before anything else.
@cam2363 - Another possibility here is if you are using one of the newer OS-X versions Mavericks or newer, and you used your Apple ID as the user account. If thats so, you’ll need to visit an Apple Store to have them fix this. Some Apple ID user ID numbers where duplicated which could lock you out of your system if someone else locked their Apple ID as you share the same ID number which is how Apple knows you by. Your information is secure here, only access to your system is the issue here.
