My kinect keeps switching off and needs to be unplugged and replugged in for it to work. When I am on the kinect settings the camera keeps switching on and off. Any suggestions as to the problem?

So I’ve had this problem for about a year of the Kinect turning on and then off by itself. I looked on YouTube and found some videos where people took it apart and checked the thermal fuse in side so I decided to follow suit… the fuse was intact as I figured since it was still coming on at times. On one video somebody said to cut two of the wires on the 4-wire fan that cools the unit that way the fan would run continuously. I will admit I was hesitant to do this because it just feels weird cutting wires but to my surprise this worked! I have not had an issue for 3 days straight now…. The connect unit also feels much cooler to the touch now… if you decide to do this make sure you only cut the blue and yellow wire to the fan and make sure to leave the black and red wire intact

Check that the fan is working correctly in the Kinect itself, it has its own fan and supply. They have a tendency to turn off, burn out, and sometimes (in my case) destroy the internal j11 thermal fuse. Also your Kinect cable actually plugs into the back of your Kinect, it is super super tough to pull out , but give it a shove in and make sure it’s well connected.

Posting this for people that was in my situation, if you are on windows and you know that your Kinect is not turning off and on due to overheating then it may be because you disabled the microphone on the Kinect because it has $@$*!& speakers. Once I enabled the microphone the Kinect started to stay on. I tried this after cutting the wires on the fan which turned out the be a waste of time.

Could be a power related failure by the sounds of it either the cord or the supply itself. Had an issue similar to this on a pc. Had to replace the power supply to fix it. If you know someone with a connect like yours, you can try to swap the power supply and see if that gets it working correctly. Could even go to a local gaming store that sells used parts and pick one up on the cheap just to test it.

So would the fan issue not mean that it would only start cutting out when it starts getting warm/hot? Mine cuts out as soon as i start from a cold boot.

Hello, If the fan on the Kinect is not turning on at all, the Kinect is overheating and turning itself off. It is possible you may just need to add fresh solder to the fan connector on the PCB. I didn’t want to cut the wires and I found another post from a user mentioning this. I used a fine tip soldering iron and added some solder to each of the four connections and that’s was it, the fan is turning on now. Here’s the post. I don’t want take the credit just spread the word. Good luck for anyone reading this. Where to buy replacement fan for Xbox one Kinect
