Every once in a while, my laptop loses the ability to connect to WiFi. I looked up the issue previously and I found a fix that involved going into BIOS and resetting back to BIOS default settings, which would allow the internet to work again (hovering over the internet symbol would say no connection, no connections available, with the Ethernet symbol and a red x in the lower right corner of the icon), but recently it has been happening with greater frequency, to the point where it happens up to once every ten minutes. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue? Thanks
Hi @thecontemplator , When you say that “….after I reset BIOS it comes back on.” does this mean that it is also disabled in BIOS as well as in Device Manager? Try running the laptop in safe mode with networking (scroll down to find out how) to see if it occurs as well. If it still gets disabled when in safe mode perhaps it is a hardware issue with the WiFi card. Here’s a link that will allow you to test the WiFi module. Select the Custom Component test - select individual component link - Internet and networking - network card If the WiFi card is faulty here’s a link to the service manual. Scroll to p.23 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the Wireless card If it works OK when in safe mode then perhaps there is a possible driver issue and as you said that you have the latest WiFi drivers installed then I’m wondering if it is a conflict between the OS and the driver or the BIOS and the driver. Have you tried rolling back the driver for the WiFi card? Have you tried doing a system restore to a point in time before the problem started and see if it still occurs? There is a BIOS update dated 1st Oct. 2018 but unfortunately it doesn’t mention the version number to see if it later than yours, although given the release date it may well be. I cannot find out what the improvements are that the updated BIOS provides so be aware of this if you wish to update the BIOS and see if it resolves the problem.
