Hi My MacBook charges and appears to be working, but when I pressed the power button it turns on and just at it plays the welcome tome it cuts out suddenly with a click noise. I’ve been told it could be hard drive or the logic board. I don’t want waste money if it is the logic board

You’ll need to either find a friend with a Mac that you can connect your system to via Target Disk Mode or have them help you in building a bootable USB thumb drive so you can boot up your system with it. That way you can better diagnose if your drive is bad or if you have something else going wrong here. My bet is your drive has gone. Update (06/30/2017) Here’s the info on connected your Mac in Target Disk Mode: How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk modeUse target disk mode to share files between two Mac computers See if you can get your system into Target Disk Mode and stay on with the power adapter plugged in. If it is able to stay on then you know the disk needs attention. If the system goes out make sure your MacSafe power adapter is working the cords LED should be a solid bright Green. If its MagSafe is Amber then you’ll need to check the battery level tester which is on the same side at the front edge. Press the checker button to see how many Green LED’s light. If only one then your battery is too low to run your system. You’ll need to wait a bit to allow the charger to charge the battery after an hour check it again if its still just blinking one LED then your battery and/or charger logic is having problems. Clean the connections using a cotton swab (Q-Tip) slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol and if you can try a second MagSafe charger. Heres a good TN on checking your MagSafe charger and the connections: Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters If you can’t connect your system to your friends then you need to setup a bootable drive. Here’s more on setting up a USB install drive or you can make a full bootable drive (either will work): How to create a bootable macOS Sierra installer driveHow to set up and use an external Mac startup disk

best bed would be to take out the hard drive and do a test with a program like seagate tools and see if its the hard drive, my best bed if you hear overwhelming clicks its the hard drive..
