Hi - My Nook HD jumps jiggles and skips pages. Thanks for your help
this is a problem known around our stores as “Ghosting.” essentially, it is thinking someone is pressing the screen when its not. this is usually caused by one of three possible issues. in order of likelyhood, they are;
- A short in the touch circuit. (most common, and replacing the digitizer/touch panel is the way to fix this)
- A connector problem. Always try disconnecting and cleanning the connectors first, as it could be a dust/debris causing it. If cleaning does not work, try replacement connector.
- Touch Control IC failure. Board level chipset issues. you will need to solder a new IC onto the board to fix this problem
The problem for all ghosting can be the small circuit ground connect to the back of the metal casing for the touch screen. If you open up the nook you’ll see a copper like square in the upper left corner of the opened Nook, [the open hole is at the bottom left. This is only held on by a light adhesive. Use some cloth black tape to help it stay glued to the metal panel. This should fix the ghosting or the nook acting up with touch commands when none are being used on the screen. I tested this with my unit. It now works perfectly. It can also be other things, this was how I fixed my ghost problem. Yes, I purchased a refurbished Nook, never again, it was through Walmart. It constantly, when it starts, jumps out of a book back to the home scene as if someone touched that button. I didn’t noticed it until about two weeks after buying it, of course getting the seller to respond was impossible. It lost most of my ebooks. once, had a about 300, ended up with 35. I’m not sure if an update might have caused that, but the jumping out of the book makes the thing useless. i may try to open the Nook to check it out, but I think it’s $35.00 blown to the wind.
