I haven’t booted up my ps4 in a month, and when I booted it up just yesterday it states unrecognized disc when I play games. So I tried using DVD movies and it worked. For some reason it reads dvds but not blu rays. How do I fix this?
Specificity is important here. Are you saying it won’t play blu-ray movies or just not games? The BD has 2 lasers. If it will play DVDs but not ANY FORM of blu-rays, then the lens probably needs cleaned and/or the laser assembly replaced. If it will play all movies but no games, then the Renesas chip might be (going) bad. This usually presents as a mismatched daughterboard in 1000/1100s, but can also be just the chip being bad. If the Renesas is bad, the PS4 will be toast as the Renesas is married to the APU, Syscon, and NOR and cannot be swapped out independently. If that ends up being the case, don’t junk it; Sell it for parts and disclose what you know to be malfunctioning.
