When the macbook pro boots, display has a whitish color, with 1-2 lines (vertical and horizontal) crossing the screen. The mouse pointer will not move despite im touching/working on the trackpad. Strange thing is that if i press on the display, on the lower right side (not the plastic bevel but the display itself) it seems as if it makes contact of some sort and the display changes color back to normal and all seems operational (mouse is moving). If i stop pressing the panel at that area, everything freezes again, color changes back to whitish and lines appear again. Might this be some sort of bad connection with cables?
Yes, that sounds like the display data cable is damaged. Here is the needed IFIXIT guide to get to it: MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Models A1226 and A1260 Display Data Cable Replacement. And here’s the needed part: MacBook Pro 15" (Models A1226/A1260) Display Data Cable. You may want to think hard here if it is worth fixing. First its a lot of work and while $50 dollars is not much this may push your skill set. Before you start I would recommend making a backup of your drive just in case.
Because the screen is dead, but wishful thinking that it is a $5 cable will always change the outcome. LCD control board is in that section. It is never the cable. This is BS made up by wishful thinking on the internet that one has a $5 problem and not a $100 one.
Hello to all after 4years. No i didnt fix the MBPro, i got a new one instead :-), but… seeing it beeing dusty on the shelve really hurts my feelings, so i thought maybe ill give it a go. But before i do, i was wondering what is the latest OS that can run seamlessly on my good old MBPro? :-)
