Well, i bought a Brand-New MacBook Pro (mid 2010), and i’m having some technical difficulties with the keyboard backlighting. If I am not mistaken, When the Ambient light sensor “sees” that there is enough light to see the keys on the keyboard, it should turn off keyboard backlighting and if there is not enough light, then naturally, the keyboard would brighten. My problem is that the keyboard dims when there is not enough light to see the keys, but brightens when there is obviously enough light. Whats wrong? Did I screw it up? How do I fix It?
Sounds to me like the wires are reversed. Take it back to Apple for warranty repair.
I just bought a new 17" MBP, and I’m having the exact same problem. The old ones had a sensor under the speaker grill and the keyboard would brighten when you put your hands over it. The new ones have a sensor at the top by the iSight camera, and it behaves in the opposite manner. :( I’m calling Apple to find out WTF is up.
One workaround is to use the F5 and F6 keys to manually adjust the brightness.
One workaround would be the App ‘Lab Tick’ (found in the Apple App store), which allows you to control the brightness of the keys.
