Chosen Solution
The phone belongs to a friend who is not savvy on a computer or phone, so I am asking for him. This phone has suddenly lost the volume. He can barely hear the ringtones & notification sounds even with it held close to the ear. Call volume, the callers voice is clear but the notification sounds are barely audible. I checked all the settings, went to Lenovo forum and saw several other reports of this. I tried everything short of a factory reset, all to no avail. Is this a common problem? Is there a known fix, short of sending it back to Motorola? I would really like to help him as he is disabled and is not technically adept at all. I understand iFixit is a Motorola repair facility so I though you could help us. Thank you.
Hi @clp1765, If you also have a Moto G6 Play try starting and using the phone in safe mode and check if the problem still occurs. If it doesn’t do this when in safe mode, then a downloaded app is the cause of the problem. The trick is to find out which one. You will have to uninstall each downloaded app, one by one and test the phone in normal mode to see if it works OK or not. When it does then the last downloaded app that was uninstalled, was the cause of the problem. If you have a different model Moto G Play to enter safe mode is usually by the same method as above.
Y’all ain’t gonna believe this! The speaker grille was completely filled with pocket lint! Cleaned out the lint, works great!!
