LCD damage is your most likely failure. Look into the replacement of your LCD Assembly. This is an expensive part compared to cost of the device. you may want to look into a replacement phone instead, but it cant hurt to look into repair costs.
No motherboard needed. Sounds like just the LCD is cracked. Easy repair if you have experience with repair but make sure to buy a full assembly.
