Two days ago, my MacBook Pro was running slowly so I tried to restart it. When it turned back on, it stayed on the logo screen for a very long time. I tried many different troubleshooting methods that I found here (My mac is stuck on the white startup screen!). I tried all of them. It’s turning on now but It seems I can only open Finder and Safari, however both take about seven minutes to open. No other applications will open. When I try to type into the URL bar, it takes another five minutes or so for a cursor to even appear. I’ve been trying to to a simple task (login to my gmail account) for over an hour. I have no idea what the issue could be. I’d like to try to fix it at home before I go to a Genius Bar, as the laptop is no longer under warranty. I can’t afford a new computer and use this one for writing every day. Please help!

Are your fans running fast all the time? If yes, you have a temp sensor issue probably on the HDD cable. If no, you most likely have a hard drive and or hard drive cable issue. I would put my bets on this. You do not need a “Genius” at apple to do this for you. It is very easy. All you need is a phillips screw driver and a brain ;). Check out this iFixit guide. I’d replace the hard drive and cable and it might me time to consider a new SSD instead of a traditional hard drive. You can get a SSD or traditional hard drive at best buy.
