Nikon D5100 is taking black photos. No, the lense cap is not on. Even in the live view it only shows black. Is the repair costly?
I was doing a shoot about 5 months ago at a motor-cross raceway, and after about 200 or so shots, I finally got a chance to start reviewing some of my shots - I wanted to make sure of focusing, and to my horror, picture after picture after picture was completely black. The first thing I checked of course was my settings, and they were all fine. I don’t know if you have ever felt anything like that but I was absolutely sick to my stomach LOL.. Well, I said all that to say this… I actually ran to my car, sat down and paused a few seconds, I then looked down at my camera, and suddenly thought for a second to take the lens off - so I did, and after removing the lense, I noticed that the mirror was up, and the shutter was closed - the shutter was stuck closed. I tried everything to un-stick it, except stick something inside the camera body, and I WAS NOT about to do that, so what I decided to do was to simply turn off the camera, and pull the battery hoping that it might do a reset on the mirror, and you know what IT WORKED!!.
- Turn your camera off
- Pull the battery out of the camera
- Replace the battery
- Turn the camera back on. I hope this will help you, but that is what was wrong with mine, and I haven’t had the issue repeat, so hopefully it was just one of those things.
Try if one of the following techniques work • Check the LCD settings before you start shooting • Reinstall the battery • Buy a new camera • Factory reset
