Chosen Solution

Hi all. I have a hp 450 laptop from 2013 . Recently it encountered a problem. It turns on but shows black screen. The HDD spins. I tried hard reset 6 times but still it didn’t help. Then I disassembled it. I removed the HDD, CD drive, wireless card and RTC battery and tried hard reset again, but still it’s the same. I checked the RAM and found out that if the RAM is removed or it is in slot 1, the caps lock blinks three times, but when it is in slot 2, the caps lock is permanently off. I tried to update the BIOS by creating a BIOS recovery drive, but still it didn’t help. Please suggest some solutions . The laptop has a lot of important data in it

Hi, What is the full model number of the laptop as shown on the information label on the bottom of the laptop? Your data should be safe . All you have to do is to connect the HDD to another PC to retrieve it. Here’s a link that shows how to do this. Why did you try removing/shifting the ram if the laptop was booting OK , but just not with a display? Get it back to the point where you said that it turns on and the HDD spins (presumably there were no lights blinking then as you never mentioned there was at that point, only after touching the ram?) and if this is the case try shining a torch at an angle close to the screen and check for images. They will be very faint so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them. If you can see images, then there is a backlight problem. This could be either in the display or on the motherboard or even the lid switch or sensor. Knowing the full model number will help to further isolate where it may be. If you can’t see any images and there are no blinking lights on the keyboard etc then try connecting an external monitor to the laptop and see if there is a display on it. Remember to press the appropriate function key that toggles the display between laptop display only, external display only or both displays on together.
