I have an iPod classic 30GB 5th Gen that constantly reboots without ever getting past the apple logo… I try to enter diagnostic mode but it dies once the mode is entered and before I even run a test. Also, a simple manual reset does not work as the apple logo just loops. Does anyone know whether this is a hard drive issue or perhaps a logic board issue. Maybe it is merely the battery? If this information helps…I have gotten it to boot when connected to a dock but no sound is emitted through the headphones when connected or through the dock itself. Thank you immensely for your time and your effort in getting back to me.

ecc625 “I have gotten it to boot when connected to a dock” start with a new battery. Then run the diagnostics. you said that it did not make any sound. The assumptions is that it functions (except no sound) when plugged into a dock.
