Chosen Solution
Hello! So recently my Macbook Air 2017’s keyboard and trackpad stops working after login. I can reset the SMC and PRAM (with the battery jack plugged in) but they don’t solve the problem. Logging into a new user shows the same problem. I can’t use the keyboard and trackpad at all during safe mode and recovery mode (can use cmd +r to boot), but can move the cursor and input the wifi password during internet recovery. Running the diagnostic test shows no problem too. When I go to preferences, the keyboard and trackpad are not detected. Please help me! My city is currently in lockdown so I have to walk at least 2hours to get to the nearest Mac service center and I can’t afford the amount of time they need to fix an item (2-4weeks) because I work from home. I hope you can help me solve my problem. PS: I have the apple screwdrivers so I can open up my MBA if needed.
This is normally indicative of a failed trackpad flex cable - see Step 7 in this guide for a clear image of the cable to be replaced. You can find them for pretty cheap online. Hope this helps!
