I have a HP Probook 6550b, and was looking to get some thinks off of it but It would flash a orange light on the lightining bolt part where it shows if it’s charging or not. So I purchased a new battery, I inserted it in and it turned on. I removed it to adjust it and then it went back to not coming on and flashing the orange light. I noticed when it came on and my charger was in it, it wasn’t charging. So i wonder if it’s the charger not working or if it’s something else.

When the battery reaches a critical battery level, the battery light begins blinking rapidly. ● Amber: The computer is connected to external power/charger and the battery is charged from 0 to 90 percent. ● White: The computer is connected to external power supply/charger and the battery is charged from 90 to 99 percent.” Simple to test. Take out battery and just plug in charger. Any lights? Does laptop turn on? No? Then replace charger. Another possiblity from Tom’s Guide is “It sometimes happens with new batteries and you need to reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery from the Device Manager. The top option should say Batteries, expand it and right click Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery => uninstall and restart you laptop.
If the ProBook won’t power on unless plugged in, and when plugged in doesn’t charge, then you most likely have a battery issue, not a charger issue. If it was a charger issue, then it wouldn’t power on at all, even when plugged it. Specifically, the two possible causes are as follows: 1. The new battery is faulty. 2: During battery replacement you either damaged the battery or the laptop’s electrical contacts that connect to the battery. If the new battery is faulty, you can just buy another one, but if it still doesn’t work, then something else is wrong. If the contacts or power connectors (the internal cables running from the charger port to the battery and from the battery to the motherboard) are damaged, then your best bet is to take it to a tech repair store or to call HP customer support. Quick tip: Usually, when the charging indicator LED is blinking amber, it either means that no battery is connected, or that the device is at very low power
