I had replaced my laptop’s dying battery with a new one. But when I turn it on, it won’t detect the battery and boot using the battery. I tried to update the BIOS, but it displays the message that no battery is found. The laptop works fine on A.C. Power. I have also noted that the laptop fails to remember time after turning it off.

Hi, Try the following. Turn off the laptop and disconnect the battery. Connect the charger and start the laptop and when it has finished booting etc, get into Device Manager and uninstall the battery from there. i.e. right click on the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Battery entry under the Battery category and select uninstall and follow the prompts to shut down the laptop. To get into Device manager in Win10 press the Win key + x key (both together) and click on the Device Manager link. When the laptop has shutdown, remove the charger, reconnnect the battery and try to start the laptop. Hopefully there is enough charge in the battery to do this. If it starts see if the battery is detected. If it is connect the charger and check that it is charging. Once it has fully charged create a Win10 battery report to check the status of the battery. Check the Design Capacity value versus the Full Charge Capacity value. With a good battery they should be nearly the same. With regards to the Date and Time it may be a low CMOS battery (supplier example only), on the motherboard. This battery is also known as an RTC (Real Time clock) battery. It is a 3V DC non rechargeable Lithium battery that maintains the BIOS settings when the laptop is turned off. It usually lasts for about 5 years or so. If the battery voltage <2.5V DC replace it. Low RTC battery voltage causes the BIOS to either become corrupted which may affect how the laptop starts or can cause the BIOS to reset to it factory default settings meaning that the D&T is incorrect. Usually resetting back to factory is not a worry, apart from the annoying D&T message, unless you have changed any User defined settings in BIOS for some specific reason.
