Sounds like a non-OEM charging cable? Most likely a power IC got fried. This usually happens when using non-OEM charging cables. Yes, it really does matter with iPhones. But before we assume that, let’s make sure: Hold power and home for at least 30 seconds and up to 60 seconds. If the phone reboots, you are good. If not: Hold power for 5 seconds, while still holding power, press and hold the home button for 15 seconds, when the apple logo appears, release the power button and continue to hold the home button. “Connect to iTunes” should show up. If it does, restore the phone and you are good. If not: Then we know part of the charging system is damaged. Time to open it up and inspect the battery for bloating or obvious damage. Disconnect the battery and inspect the connector for any damage. If alll of that looks good, then you are going to want to check the power ICs, most likely one or more popped. Replacing those does take some skill, so you may want to brush up on your micro soldering skills. Going forward, make sure to only use certified charging cables, especially with Apple products. Its all too common to see a $700 rendered useless by a $3 cable. Good luck
