my television has shut down and isn’t booting up but it is showing a red light
pete hard we would need to know the complete model number for your TV. The red light on the power LED usually mans that the power supply is connected and receives the appropriate voltages. In simplified theory the power board creates all the voltages needed for the different components inside your TV. It is the main board that tells the power board when to turn which component on. So, in your case it could be that this is a button bar (power switch) issue or that it is the main board that is not telling the power board to run your TV on. Depending on the model, you start issues like this off by measuring the voltages from your power board to your main board. For that you will have to remove the back cover and use a multimeter for the measurements. Again, we will need the model number so we can try an assist you with this task. Of course you should always try a quick reset as well. Remove the power plug for the TV from the outlet. Disconnect ALL video input sources. Unplug everything that is plugged into the TV. Once done, hold the power button on the TV depressed for about a minute or so. Then connect ONE video input source i.e. DVD?BR player or similar then reconnect the power to the TV and try to turn it on. Let us know what you got.
