The touch screen will not respond to the stylus no matter where I tap.

Your screen may need to be calibrated to the stylus. After powering on your LeapPad, simultaneously hold down the Home button and volume up button to navigate you to the Parent Settings menu and select “Screen Calibration” option. Select all five “+” signs one at a time to complete the calibration. If this doesn’t fix your issue follow link below to continue troubleshooting! LeapFrog LeapPad2 Explorer Troubleshooting

I used the up and down arrows to get to the “calibrate screen” option and then the right arrow to select it. Then you tap the plus signs with the stylus and it fixed the problem.

First try the suggestions above- recalibrate the screen, clean between screen and case (without removing case), but if neither work (which is what happened to me), connect your leappad to your computer, and get the leapfrog connect going. Once you select your device, then click on “settings” in top right hand corner, and click “repair”. I had already taken my case apart and was very daunted by the possibility of having to solder or resolder anything, when I came across a site that suggested trying this. I did so, and after about 15-20 min, it had actually fixed the screen’s problem, and it now responds to the stylus again. No screwdriver needed - yippee!!!

Look for crumbs in the channel between the screen and frame. We had several crumbs and once I got them out the game worked fine.
