This has been happening for a while (can’t remember when it started), but on my MBA 2017, one of the two USB ports won’t work, the one next to the MagSafe Connector. All USB cables/flash dives only go in half way, all but 1 flash drive goes in and connects. Other USB port is fine with all cables tried is OK … I’ve looked into the effected USB port to see if any dust in there, but I couldn’t see anything. If I hold some USB cables I do get a connection, so I don’t think it’s not port issue ‘per-say’. Just cables won’t go all the way in. (e.g my phone will argue of I hold the cable to get connection, but external hard drive has enough power to spin up, but not to be registered on Mac.) Any suggestions?

The easiest thing here is just replace the connector! As it turns out this one is very easy to do. MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2013-2017) I/O Board and here’s the guide MacBook Air 13" Early 2015 I/O Board Replacement
