The mirror compass on my 2009 Forester is intermittently very dim/out and at normal brightness. Although lately it is mostly so dim as to be unreadable, even at night. From what I understand this is a fairly common problem on this and other Subaru models. Is there a fix I could attempt?

I also have a 2009 Forest with a mirror that’s been out of order for over a year. Is there a fix for this other than replacing it? like a fuse or some button I’m not aware of? Sorry Netbiz1 I have no answer for your question but I too have that same problem, I was told at the dealership while having a recall issue fixed that it would have to be replaced for 300. That’s ridicules. I was also told I needed front and back brake work also my drive belt had a crack in it. They just happened to feel the need to check my brakes without my asking. Wonder why. Same day I took it to merchants auto and it only needed front brake work at less than half the cost that the dealership would charge also there was nothing wrong with my drive belt. My husband used to work at a Subaru dealership and that’s how they do business by Telling customers they need something that they don’t. Nice! So that leaves me wondering if our rear view mirrors really have to be replaced or is it something so simple to fix. So many recalls on everything else and of course my warranty is up. go figure.

Yep, reflow the solder on a couple resistors on the board: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthre
