Backing up of HD keeps failing using super duper preventing me from swapping out drive

We don’t use super duper anymore as it first erases the disk. THIS REMOVES THE REPAIR PARTITION. Instead, use Time machine to backup your drive. Now if you install a new drive, you can do an internet install and then move your data using Migration Assistant when you are setting it up.

How about doing a better method… we don’t use cloning apps any more. Get a SATA to USB adapter like this one: SATA to USB cable Plug in your new drive in using the cable. Format the drive using Disk Utility then run the OS installer from your internal drive. Select your external drive and let it run. Your system will reboot a few times once done it will give you a dialog box allowing to Migrate your user accounts, apps & data over. Just follow the instructions to copy your stuff following this Apple T/N How to move your content to a new Mac. Apple aims you to connect your new Mac via target disk mode, here we are using an external drive directly. Then all you need to do it swap over the drives. Done! No fuss
