I have a MacBook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013. When I’m using it, sometimes the screen randomly goes dark for a few seconds to up to 30 seconds. The computer is still running (keys remain illuminated). I can’t really tell what makes the screen come back to life…sometimes I hit random keys and it comes back, sometimes it just comes back. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? Thank you
Do you tend to use a spray cleaner on your display? With COVID I’m seeing a lot of screen failures do to liquid damage! What happens is the spray drips down the display to the bottom and there it wets the logic under the bezel. The connector gets corroded so the backlight power doesn’t get though. You may be able to save your display but its a delicate operation! You may want to find someone with the needed skills and tools to do this repair. Here’s a good view of things in this teardown MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown. Jump down to Step 5 here’s a blowup of the connector in question on the T-CON board.
Which then transfers power the backlight via the display cable which is seen in Step 8 middle image
Either or both may be damaged
