I have me a 15.5 hp 42" Lawn tractor model # 917.271050. When I depress the Brake/ some times it turns, sometimes it does not. When it turns it is hard to start or sometime it starts and runs good. After mowing for several minutes it quites with no good reason. So I starts again. This times it won’t start and then it won’t turn over anymore. Can you tell me ;the root of the problem?
I have a Craftsman 21hp - 46" deck lawn tractor and it always starts on first key turn. Make sure you do the maintenance at least once a year. I changed the fuel filter, air filters, and oil filter plus changed the oil while I was at it, but suspect it just needed new fuel and air filters. It seemed like fuel was not getting through properly and that did it. A few years later I had to change the fuel solenoid (easy part to just screw in a new one) because button was getting stuck sometimes and cut off the fuel while I was mowing. Also make sure your battery is charged right up. Hope this helps. Sometimes it is the simple maintenance things that stop the mower from working.
