Hi. I’ve just bought a PS3 Fat and it turned out to be problematic. When I turn it on it is working but after 5-10 secs it starts making noises and then it turns off. I removed the blu-ray, the psu and the wireless card but I couldn’t get the hard drive out. There wasn’t dust over the hard drive. I will try to find a screwdriver for the hdd tray tomorrow. Is the problem dust or there’s something else wrong with it?
The noise I heard in the video was the fan going to full speed. This was followed quickly by a shutdown. It suggests that the machine is overheating. The machine will first increase the fan speed in an attempt to cool down the CPU. If this fails to work, the system will shutdown to prevent damage to the CPU. I would open up the unit and replace the heat compound for the CPU. The existing compound is probably dried out and not working properly. Replace this first. Also, clean out any dust inside the unit and clean the fan blades. Re-assemble and try again. Post here the results of the above. Dan
